76 -- FOOL
The intensity of the Sun fills the sky. The ridiculous folly of both individuals, stridently stepping barefoot (one foot) into an expanse without a care or concern in the world except to follow or chase a butterfly into peril tells us of the over-riding message for this trump.
The card's association with the Sun implies forceful movement without the benefit of orientation, an error of great magnitude, suffusion in delusion, and a mis-step at the outset of a journey.
The Fool's letter is A, the Answer without a question, the inverted form of the Tree of Life featured on every card, and the Path is that of Initiation, Creation, and Vibrancy.
In certain variations of this card, the solar symbol disseminates from the main figure's genitalia, and often a wild or domesticated animal nips at his heels, bites his leg, or threatens his life.
While the divinatory significance of the trump conveys error and foolhardiness, the esoteric significance of The Fool is that it sets the stage for The Journey to the West, the Spiritual Adventure, and the Great Work, primarily insofar as the Sphere of the Sun dumps its raw, unadulterated creative power into the channel or tunnels of its delivery and manifestation.
The meaning of this card is, in fact, serendipity, wanderlust, and innocence, complicated by ignorance, lack of awareness, and delusion.
